West Ham in talks with Marseille today to sign Duje Caleta-Car
West Ham are in talks to try and get Marseille to accept their loan-to-buy bid for centre-back Duje Caleta-Car, according to ExWHUemployee.
Writing on the West Ham Way’s Patreon page, the reliable Irons insider reports that a deal is not as close as the French media are suggesting and that talks are being held today (Friday, 28 January) in a bid to reach an agreement.
It is understood that due to their financial situation, Marseille want the money up front for Caleta-Car, a 25-year-old Croatia international.

Get it done
West Ham are running out of time to add to the squad before the January transfer window slams shut on Monday night.
So far this month, David Moyes hasn’t been able to sign anyone.
We’re not overly concerned by the lack of business because only desperate Premier League clubs have done. However, we’re in such a good position to qualify for the Champions League that it would be a shame to not try and push the boat out a bit.
Moyes obviously needs a striker and a replacement for Angelo Ogbonna, who’s out for the rest of the season and ageing, is needed in the heart of the defence.

Caleta-Car hasn’t been a regular for Marseille this season so you can see why the Hammers are hesitant to strike a permanent deal for him straight off the bat.
If we get him on a loan-to-buy, it’ll essentially be a case of the club being able to see if he’s worth the money before buying him.
But that does no favours for Marseille, who reportedly need the money.
West Ham might start to grow desperate though and could baulk.
In other West Ham news, a last-ditch deal is on the cards for the Irons to sign this out-of-favour England player.
