West Ham in talks for full Maxwel Cornet sale in Blackburn transfer twist

Blackburn Rovers are interested in signing Maxwel Cornet on a permanent transfer should West Ham recall him from his current loan, according to 225foot.

The online source reported [11 December] that the winger, currently on loan at Southampton, is expected to be recalled in January and is attracting interest from the Rovers, with Watford preferring a loan.

It is understood that negotiations are currently underway, with Cornet favouring a club where he can gain valuable minutes on the pitch ahead of the 2025 African Cup of Nations despite sealing a late move away in the summer.

West Ham United to finally offload Maxwel Cornet?

Many Hammers fans will have forgotten that Cornet is still on the books at the London Stadium, having joined Southampton on a season-long loan during the summer.

Since then, the 28-year-old has only made four appearances, two of which have come in the Premier League and two in the EFL Cup.

His current situation is clearly benefitting none of the parties currently involved. Tim Steidten must work his magic to get the winger out of the club as quickly as possible.

Cornet is contracted with the Hammers until 2027 after joining on a £17.5million deal in 2022 [BBC Sport], which would suggest that the club will take a heavy hit on their investment.

The winger has only made 37 appearances for the Hammers since his move to East London in 2022 so the majority of fans will be keen to see the back of him during the January transfer window.

West Ham have certainly raised some eyebrows over the years with interesting transfer decisions and the purchase of Cornet will be one of those to remember for all the wrong reasons.

It has just not worked out for the Ivorian, having made just four Premier League starts over the last three campaigns, but fans may finally be able to say goodbye if Blackburn are serious about their interest.
