West Ham in advanced talks to sign Celtic ace Cummings as fee revealed
West Ham are now at an advanced stage to sign Celtic striker Daniel Cummings on a pre-contract, according to the Daily Record.
The Scottish newspaper reported via its website [1 February] that the Hammers are closing on a deal for the goalscoring sensation, who is out of contract at Celtic Park at the end of the season.
It is understood Graham Potter’s side will have to pay in the region of £300,000 in cross-border training compensation, with the Hammers now racing ahead of Brighton and numerous Championship clubs.
West Ham ready to splash £300,000 for Celtic sensation
With 26 goals in 27 games across all competitions for the Celtic B team, it is no wonder why a number of teams are looking to poach his signature on a free transfer.
Of course, the Hammers currently need a striker figure who can make an instant impact at the London Stadium, and Cummings is unlikely to be the man to replace Niclas Fullkrug and Michail Antonio.
However, there is no reason not to invest in the future of East London, something which has been overlooked in recent seasons.
Supporters were rather disappointed after Divin Mubama joined Manchester City on a free transfer, but under Graham Potter, more and more youngsters are being given a chance.
The former Chelsea and Brighton figure is well-known for trusting the next generation of footballers so that might encourage Cummings that a move to the London Stadium is the right choice for him.

Despite this, the Hammers seriously need to bring in an experienced centre-forward before the transfer window slams shut on 3 February, but the chances of that are diminishing with each second.
No excitement should be taken away from the potential that Cummings currently holds, but it is clear why fans are becoming frustrated with the club’s current transfer stance, or just the lack of urgency to sign someone.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers have launched a mammoth bid to sign Eli Junior Kroupi.
