West Ham handed ‘good news’ in Andre Silva transfer update – Roshane Thomas
Andre Silva’s clinical nature is “good news” for West Ham as the striker search continues at the London Stadium, according to Roshane Thomas.
The RB Leipzig forward is one of the many names on the Hammers’ shortlist this month, with the 29-year-old reportedly keen on a move to East London before the winter transfer window shuts [ExWHUEmployee].
Fulham’s Rodrigo Muniz, Brighton’s Evan Ferguson and Middlesbrough’s Emmanuel Latte Lath have all been linked with Graham Potter’s squad, though Silva could be the one to make the switch.
Writing via The Athletic [17 January], Thomas said: “The good news is that West Ham need a clinical forward and Silva has been that sort of figure in the past.
“All 40 of his Eintracht Frankfurt Bundesliga goals came from inside the penalty area, which is an indication of the sort of finisher he is. His goalscoring return of 29 goals in 2020-21 at Frankfurt shows what he can achieve with an extended run in a team.
“Although Silva has not reached those heights since, a switch to West Ham and some regular game time could get him back on track. It would certainly be a risk, though.”
Are West Ham taking a gamble by signing Andre Silva?
Silva has notched just one goal and two assists in eight Bundesliga matches so far this season, being totally outshone by Benjamin Sesko and Lois Openda.
He cannot totally be blamed for that, with both players starring for Leipzig, but it has been far too long since the fans have seen the 29-year-old back at his best.
Between July 2021 and August 2023, he scored 26 goals in 95 appearances for the Bundesliga side but a drop in form saw him move away on loan to Real Sociedad.
With just four goals in 26 appearances, it was not a loan spell to shout home about, and the club are unlikely to be happy about his return given his struggles in front of goal recently.

While Potter needs someone who can make an instant impact at the London Stadium, the new manager cannot afford to be too picky when it comes to a new striker signing.
The Hammers are without Niclas Fullkrug, Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen currently, which forced Potter to start Lucas Paqueta through the middle against Fulham.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers are in Friday talks to seal a striker signing from a “sensational” club.
