West Ham United are somewhat falling behind as they prepare for life in the Championship.

The Hammers' relegation would be sealed on the final day of the season, despite winning 3-0 against Leeds.

As a result, the club have been all over the shop in recent weeks, with the confirmation of Nuno Espirito Santo's future being the only piece of positive news.

Now, they have had their answer regarding Middlesbrough sporting director Kieran Scott, who the Irons were courting ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

The East London club are in desperate need of a reset after stumbling into the Championship of their own accord through mismanagement in recent years.

And after hearing the news about Scott, West Ham will be frustrated as they continue to stall in their preparations.

West Ham to feel frustration as Kieran Scott future confirmed

Last month, it was reported that the Irons were interested in the Scott, who is currently serving as head of football at the Riverside.

Having previously been in charge of recruitment at Norwich City, Scott joined Boro in September 2021, playing his part in two play-off finishes under Michael Carrick and Kim Hellberg.

At the same time, the Hammers themselves have been without a recruitment chief since Kyle Macaulay's departure last October - this could be set to go on.

As per a report from the Northern Echo, Shaw - described as "extremely highly regarded" - is set to stay on Teesside this summer, despite strong interest from both West Ham and Birmingham City.

Said to be focused on the coming transfer window for Boro, Scott will remain in place at the Riverside - where he will aim to aid Kim Hellberg in going one step further, and securing promotion to the Premier League.

Ahead of the summer, West Ham have to raise upwards of £150million in player sales, heavily restricting their recruitment for the time being.

The news regarding Scott is simply another block in the road, which will frustrate Nuno as he looks to guide his side out of the second tier.

Have West Ham left themselves short ahead of Championship return?

Given the nature of their relegation, the Hammers have had little to no real preparation time for the EFL.

In January, fellow relegated outfit Wolves were able to get the ball rolling ahead of the anticipated demotion, bringing in Adam Armstrong while an exit was sealed for Jorgen Strand Larsen.

West Ham on the other hand, were recruiting players of Taty Castellanos' ilk to try and see themselves over the line in the Premier League.

As a result of the situation, the Irons are scrambling around looking for a coherent plan - a far from ideal scenario given the fact that it will soon be time to return for pre-season.

The situation with Scott is another frustrating setback, meaning that frustrations may just continue to grow within the fanbase as they watch their side stumble into the Championship.
