West Ham eye Adam Webster transfer amid Brighton contract decision

West Ham are considering a move for Brighton defender Adam Webster during the transfer window, according to Jack Rosser.

The Sun reporter posted on X (24 January) claiming that Webster is one of the names being considered by the Hammers as Graham Potter looks to strengthen his side.

The defender has 18 months left on his deal at Brighton, although the Seagulls do have an option to extend his contract by a further year beyond 2026 and could decide to exercise it.

West Ham considering a move for Adam Webster

Potter knows he has some work to do at the London Stadium if he is going to turn the Hammers’ season around and therefore, new signings are expected before the transfer window closes.

However, due to the money spent by the Irons in the summer, the new boss is limited when it comes to the resources available to him at this stage in the campaign.

The East London outfit could certainly use some defensive reinforcement and the 30-year-old is a solid player, however, it may be a risk to sign him.

This term, the defender has made just five Premier League appearances due to suffering with an injury and has only recently re-entered the side.

Furthermore, last season Webster made just 15 league appearances across the campaign having also suffered with injury then.

Therefore, it has to be asked whether Potter really needs to add an injury-prone player to his side with enough players sidelined already.

That being said, options could be running out for the Hammers and given Potter managed Webster at Brighton he may feel confidence in this signing.

It’s one worth considering but it wouldn’t be surprising to see other options explored first before a final decision is made.
