West Ham exploring possibility of Gianlucca Scammaca transfer – report
West Ham are reportedly exploring the possibility of bringing Gianlucca Scammaca to the London Stadium, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The club have been looking for a striker to bolster their firepower, with the club also being in the middle of a high-profile pursuit of Chelsea’s Armando Broja.
However, Guardian journalist Romano reported on Tuesday (12 July) that the club are also pondering a move for the Italian target man, with PSG also in the running for the striker’s signature.
Romano said: “Paris Saint-Germain do not intend to pay more than €40m for Gianluca Scamacca.
“West Ham are among the clubs exploring this possibility in transfer domino that could include Armando Broja.”
Is Scammaca the man to take West Ham forward?
If West Ham are to secure Scammaca’s signature, it would be a huge sign of intent from the club, and the striker would take the Hammer’s offensive threat to the next level.
In this window, David Moyes’ team have been linked with the likes of Arnaut Danjuma and Broja, however, Danjuma is a level above these two other targets.
The six foot four inch striker has shown promise since his days in the Roma academy, but in recent years has exploded onto the scene.
In the 2020/21 season he scored eight Serie A goals, but last term in his best scoring season so far, he doubled that tally, with a mightily impressive record of a goal every two games.
The 23-year-old has a varied skillset, with excellent hold-up play and ball control – especially with his chest – and a feirce long shot.
He finished sixth in the Serie A top goalscorers chart last season, despite playing considerably less minutes than the strikers above him.
His goal per minute ratio bettered both Tammy Abraham and Giovanni Simeone, and he has also gone on to earn seven caps for his country.
Although the deal is only at its early stages, this is a deal that if West Ham were able to get over the line, would be a real game changer for David Moyes.
