West Ham defender Emeka Adiele agrees deadline day exit after Borussia Dortmund news
West Ham are currently in the market for defensive signings, but youth defender Emeka Adiele could be on his way out.
Nuno Espirito Santo is currently one centre-back short, with Igor Julio returning to Brighton early from his loan at the Hammers.
Axel Disasi looks set to be his replacement, with the Frenchman reportedly undergoing his medical ahead of his move from Chelsea.
Disasi is a much-needed arrival, but the departure of Adiele is certainly not great news for the East London club.
Emeka Adiele to join FC Utrecht after rejecting Borussia Dortmund
Adiele has been attracting a lot of interest around Europe, and it was hoped he would end up staying at West Ham for the foreseeable future.
The left-back has been highly rated, with suggestions Adiele could eventually usurp El Hadji Malick Diouf in the starting lineup.
However, that does not seem to be the case, with the defender agreeing a deal to leave the English club on deadline day.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Adiele is set to join Eredivisie side FC Utrecht on a four-year deal.
The respected transfer journalist also reported that Adiele rejected the chance to join Borussia Dortmund and Juventus, as he felt he would get more game time at the Dutch club.
Unfortunately for West Ham, they were unable to provide the youth prospect with his wish of first-team minutes, and they may now regret that in the future.
How much of a loss will Adiele be for West Ham?
Adiele has been in great form for West Ham’s youth squads, so it makes the interest in him unsurprising.
While typically known as a left-back, the young talent has been playing a versatile role for the Hammers, shifting his position across the whole left flank in the Premier League 2.
In 20 youth matches, Adiele has had a hand in 15 goal contributions.
| Statistic | Total |
| Appearances | 20 |
| Goals | 5 |
| Assists | 10 |
While the loss may not affect the first-team squad this season, it could very well turn out to be a player that got away from the E20 outfit.
In an ideal world West Ham keep a hold of Adiele, but if they cannot offer the player game time currently, then it might be best for all parties to go their separate ways.
That will not prevent the chance that letting him go permanently could turn out to be a huge mistake in hindsight.
