West Ham ‘could open contact’ with Liverpool target Perr Schuurs in the coming days

West Ham want to sign Torino centre-back Perr Schuurs and could make contact with the player in the coming days to see if he is willing to join the club, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

The East London club could make contact with Torino in the coming days as they look to find out what it would take to lure the Dutchman away from his current club, and whether or not he would be willing to join David Moyes’ side this summer.

According to the report, Schuurs is on West Ham’s list to reinforce the defensive department, having also been linked to moves for Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah [90min, 3 July] and Leipzig’s Danilho Doekhi [VI, 2 July] this summer.

Schuurs would be a great addition

West Ham are in need of defensive reinforcements this summer after Kurt Zouma missed 12 games through injury last season, Nayef Aguerd missed 23, and Thilo Kehrer has been linked to a move away from the club.

Schuurs is a wanted man this summer, having also been linked to Crystal Palace and Liverpool and Napoli, with the Merseyside club reportedly having seen a £25.6million deal rejected earlier in the transfer window [Tuttosport, via Sport Witness, 6 July].

The Dutch centre-back would be a good fit at whichever club he ends up singing for, with confidence and ability on the ball a key part of his playing style, as he could help the team build from the back with composed and accurate passing.

West Ham will explore a move for Schuurs among other options this summer and weigh up the pros and cons before making a move – as they will not do a deal that doesn’t suit them after holding firm with the Declan Rice deal.

In other West Ham news, the club could target £21million Premier League defender this summer.
