West Ham could make over £10m on Taty Castellanos already after new transfer reveal
West Ham United managed to keep hold of Taty Castellanos in the summer window.
The Hammers signed the Argentine from Lazio in the last winter window for an initial £26million fee.
Though the striker scored seven goals in the second half of the season, he was unable to keep the Irons up, who were relegated to the Championship.
There were early rumours in the summer that suggested Castellanos had no interest in staying in the second tier of English football, but he was quick to express his desire to continue playing under Nuno Espirito Santo.
The 28-year-old has four goals for the Hammers in all competitions so far this season, and will be hoping to help the E20 side gain promotion back to the Premier League.
However, what if West Ham receive offers for Castellanos in the January transfer window?
Why Taty Castellanos is more valuable than when he first joined West Ham
The Standard reported the £26m fee that West Ham paid for Castellanos, which may not go to waste if he is to help the Hammers get promoted.
However, the winter market is when Premier League and other European clubs often search far and wide for a new number nine, and the Irons may need to brace for interest.
Nuno already has Joel Piroe and Pablo at his disposal, while Jarrod Bowen can also play up front.
That said, there may be a reality in which West Ham feel forced to sell Castellanos in January, but if they do, the club could pocket some big profit.
According to CIES' Football Observatory, Castellanos' fair market value is a minimum of £34m, with a maximum of £38m.
If West Ham had to sell the striker, they could push for the higher end of that scale, and possibly bank more than £10m in profit.
Castellanos ranks as the second most expensive player in the Championship, with Wolves' Mateus Mane only ahead of him with a maximum valuation of £42m.
Would West Ham survive without Castellanos?
Castellanos has yet to find his scoring boots in the Championship, and has just one goal to his name in seven games.
However, he has been involved in positive link-up play elsewhere that has resulted in goals.
Piroe has hit the ground running for the Irons and is unlikely to be recalled by Leeds United, while Pablo recently grabbed his first for the club.
That said, it wouldn't be the end of the world if West Ham lost Castellanos in January.
Who knows? Perhaps a big offer could tempt the Irons.
