West Ham and Chelsea ‘seriously interested’ in Jonathan David amid £16.9m transfer news

West Ham are “seriously interested” in signing Lille striker Jonathan David, according to Florian Plettenberg.

The Sky Sports Germany journalist reported via X (25 June) that the Hammers have gathered information, with Chelsea also enquiring about the 24-year-old in recent days.

David is also on Manchester United’s shortlist, with the Premier League seen as his most likely destination.

The striker has one year left on his contract and is available for a fee of somewhere between £16.9million and £21.1million.

West Ham United could make a statement by signing Jonathan David

If the Hammers could bring David to the London Stadium, it would be a real statement of intent.

With both Chelsea and United interested in the Canadian it would be a real coup if Julen Lopetegui’s side were to win the race for his signature.

David has an impressive scoring record in France, and while the Premier League is arguably a step up, at the age of 24 he has plenty of time to develop and adapt.

The number nine position has been cursed in recent years for West Ham, but there is every chance that David could help them lift that curse.

And with the forward available for a fee of around £20million, that could prove to be a bargain for whichever club ends up signing him.

Lopetegui will hope that club is his, but it seems as if there is still a bit more work to do before that happens.

In other West Ham news, the club are set to announce a new transfer within days.
