West Ham alert to opportunity for Ferguson deal as Brighton decide on transfer

West Ham are on alert to sign Evan Ferguson in the January transfer window with Brighton still set to make a decision on his future, according to Ben Jacobs.

The GiveMeSport journalist reported on X (1 January) that enquiries about the striker’s services have been made with his current club but have yet to make a decision.

The Seagulls are said to be in favour of insisting on an obligation clause if they do let go of the 20-year-old, who’s also wanted by Arsenal and Fulham, in the window.

West Ham waiting for a decision on Evan Ferguson

As Julen Lopetegui looks to save his job at the London Stadium, the Spaniard is in need of attacking reinforcements, especially after the latest blow of Jarrod Bowen fracturing his foot.

Ferguson has just one goal from 12 appearances so far this term having struggled with injury but amid a period of poor form for his current club, a move could be what the highly rated youngster needs to revive him in the second half of the campaign.

Whether the Seagulls feel they can part ways is yet to be seen and with his contract running until 2029, currently there is no pressure to sanction an exit in the upcoming transfer window.

Furthermore, teammate James Milner urged his side to keep “phenomenal” finisher Ferguson in January 2024 as he said to TNT Sports: “There’s hype around him, as there should be, but he’s definitely in the right place at this moment in time and hopefully he’ll keep banging them in for us.”

For now the Hammers will have to monitor this one and be ready to pounce should Brighton make the decision that the striker can leave. If David Sullivan can pull off this signing, he would surely bring the kind of improvement that The Irons are crying out for.
