Wesley Gassova transfer stance emerges amid West Ham United links
West Ham United-linked Wesley Gassova would like to play in Ligue 1 before making the “big jump” to the Premier League, according to Foot Mercato.
The French publication reported on Sunday (28 July) that the Hammers and Chelsea are among the clubs to have bid for the Corinthians attacking gem this summer.
Foot Mercato added that Rennes are now eyeing the 19-year-old Brazilian attacker, who sees Ligue 1 as a good launching pad before moving to England.
It added that “the idea of writing a new page in France does not displease him”, while noting Serie A side Atalanta as another interested party.
West Ham United face battle for Wesley Gassova
The Hammers have been linked with a move for the 19-year-old through the summer transfer window and technical director Tim Steidten has been targeting the South American market to bolster Julen Lopetegui’s squad.
That has already yielded reward with the addition of young winger Luis Guilherme and Gassova is obviously a man in demand this window but the Irons are facing a big battle for his signature.

They were already facing competition from the Premier League in fhe form of Chelsea and now there links to clubs in France and Italy too, which makes their pursuit all the more difficult.
What might play in their favour is the fact Rennes have also been linked to Leeds United ace Crysencio Summerville – as, coincidentally, have the Hammers – and it feels unlikely they would look to bring in both players this summer.
It’s a race that you sense will continue throughout the remainder of the transfer window.
In other West Ham news, one Hammers-linked ace has reportedly made a transfer decision.
