VfB Stuttgart want Konstantinos Mavropanos transfer as West Ham United exit update emerges

VfB Stuttgart are interested in re-signing Konstantinos Mavropanos after following a trail leading to West Ham, according to Kicker.

The German source reported [21 August] that the Bundesliga club are in search of defensive reinforcements before the transfer window shuts, targeting Mavropanos and Burnley’s Ameen Al-Dakhil.

With Mavropanos’s future uncertain at the London Stadium – the Hammers are not against his exit if their valuation of the player is met [Sean Whetstone] – the door could be open for Stuttgart to take him back.

West Ham United to sell Konstantinos Mavropanos?

Considering the Irons’ transfer business during the summer, bringing in Max Kilman and Jean-Clair Todibo, it makes sense that the club are open to the Greek defender’s departure.

While the 26-year-old played 90 minutes in the Hammers’ opening match of the Premier League season, partnering up with Kilman, Todibo and Nayef Aguerd could mean he is surplus to requirement.

Kurt Zouma is currently still an option at the London Stadium but it seems much more likely that he will not be a West Ham player once the transfer window closes despite failing his medical with Al Shabab [Dharmesh Sheth].

Given that the London club signed Mavropanos from Stuttgart just last summer on a £17million deal [The Athletic], they will be wanting to make as much of that money back despite a mixed season in England.

He made 34 appearances in all competitions, only making 16 starts in the Premier League under David Moyes, with the whole of the defence being heavily scrutinised due to the heavy flow of goals being conceded.

Mavropanos could certainly be one of the next players to leave, and Lopetegui already has the replacements to deal with his exit.
