Update emerges on supposed West Ham United bid to sign Sofyan Amrabat ahead of Man United

There is no truth in reports of West Ham making an opening offer to Fiorentia for midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, according to Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor.

Taylor took to his personal Twitter (1 August, 6:15 pm) to rubbish the claim after Gazzetta dello Sport reported (31 July) that the Hammers had met the Serie A side’s £25.8million valuation of the 26-year-old.

Amrabat is also on Manchester United’s radar this summer, but following their £72million purchase of Rasmus Hojlund, Taylor claims they are currently prioritising sales.

Shame

West Ham fans will be frustrated at the lack of movement in their transfer window so far having made no signings after the £105million sale of Declan Rice.

They need midfield reinforcements and are reportedly looking to bring two midfielders to replace Rice including James Ward-Prowse from Southampton [Daily Record].

If Taylor’s claim is correct, it would be a shame for West Ham not to be in pursuit of the midfielder who could come to the London Stadium for a reasonable fee. With regular international experience with Morocco and a World Cup semi-final under his belt, his experience would make him a quality addition.

West Ham

While not quite as good a midfielder as Rice, Amrabat does trump the Englishman in many key stats which reflect the impact he could have at West Ham. He betters Rice on progressive passes per 90 with 7.93 (92nd percentile) and pass completion which stands at 88.8% (95th percentile) [FBRef], showing he could bring something to West Ham that Rice couldn’t.

However, no one is expecting the Hammers to replace Rice with a single signing, so if they could secure Amrabat for such a fee then it could prove shrewd business, especially considering his European experience with Fiorentina.

Their top midfield target appears to be Ward-Prowse, with David Moyes reportedly urging the West Ham board to secure his signature as soon as this week so he can be integrated into the side before their opening clash against Bournemouth [Daily Record], so Hammers fans could soon see their first summer signing soon.

But this transfer update will be disappointing for fans, as time slowly ticks away before the start of their Premier League season.

In other West Ham news, another London Stadium departure could be in the cards as Torino increase their bid for the £25million man.
