Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah is now open to a transfer amid interest from West Ham, according to HITC.

The online source reported [8 August] that the 25-year-old has changed his mind about a potential summer move after being informed he would not be part of the Blues' Premier League squad next season.

It is understood that the Hammers have made contact to confirm their interest, wanting to add a centre-back partner for Max Kilman, joining Crystal Palace and Fulham in the race for his signature.

GiveMeSport reported [24 July] that the player is in no rush to leave his boyhood club, but that looks to have changed for the defender.

West Ham United to seal Trevoh Chalobah signing?

David Moyes' side was often criticised for its lack of defence attributes last term, even despite the former manager focusing on a defensive style of play.

Julen Lopetegui will be keen to rectify those mistakes heading into the new season, with Wolves' captain Max Kilman already added to the ranks for £40million [BBC Sport], and Aaron Wan-Bissaka expected to sign soon [Dharmesh Sheth].

Chalobah has proven his quality on the pitch after coming through Chelsea's academy at the Cobham Training Centre, even getting emotional when notching his only Premier League goal of last season.

However, he is now surplus to requirement at Stamford Bridge, rather surprisingly, alerting several teams to his situation, and the Hammers are now one of the clubs keeping a keen eye.

Kurt Zouma, Nayef Aguerd and Konstantinos Mavropanos have all been linked with moves away, and while it is unlikely all will leave before 30 August, Lopetegui must be prepared to fill some spots.

Chalobah looks to be a ready-made replacement, having made 80 appearances for Chelsea since returning from a season-long loan with Lorient in 2021 and could be thrown straight into the lineup.

It is unclear how much the Hammers would need to pay for the 25-year-old centre-back, though, with the player contracted at Stamford Bridge until the summer of 2028.
