Transfer target Florian Thauvin has knocked back West Ham offer

West Ham have had an offer for Florian Thauvin rejected by the Frenchman, according to L’Equipe.

The Marseille forward is nearing the end of his contract, which expires in the summer, but has reportedly rejected offers from the Irons and Crystal Palace.

Thauvin has also attracted interest from Napoli and Atletico Madrid, which could explain his decision, while Leicester were also linked in March [Estadio Deportivo].

That French newspaper suggests the 28-year-old is after €3million a year, or £50,000 a week, and according to L’Equipe, Thauvin has received the offer of a five-year contract from Mexican side Tigres.

Exciting prospect

Thauvin may be remembered by most English fans for his disastrous 2015 spell at Newcastle which saw him make 13 league appearances in six months, scoring zero goals, but he is actually a player capable of producing magical moments.

He scores brilliant goals and has a real eye for a pass too, with eight assists and 1.6 key passes per game this term, per WhoScored.

Thauvin spent the 2019/20 season sidelined with injury but in his last four full seasons he has scored 67 goals, mainly from right-wing.

That is a pretty incredible return – and better than what teammate Dimitri Payet has produced – it suggests he could provide a similar threat to Jarrod Bowen or even Jesse Lingard.

Adding goals to the midfield is crucial for West Ham and has been vital to us picking up big results this term.

The Irons may need to be prepared to offer Thauvin big money but his form suggests he would certainly be worth it.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers are plotting a £66,000 a week deal to sign forward, contact has been made.
