Tottenham join West Ham in race to sign Stuttgart forward Sasa Kalajdzic

West Ham have been joined by London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Stuttgart striker Sasa Kalajdzic.

West Ham have shown an interest in the player recently and planned to sign him in the summer as David Moyes opted against bringing a striker to replace Sebastian Haller in January. [Daily Mail]

The Daily Mail recently reported that he was also on the shortlist of Borussia Dortmund as they are preparing for Erling Haaland’s exit.

Now, Eurosport has reported that the race has got even more crowded, with Tottenham joining the hunt. It claims Roma and RB Leipzig also keeping tabs on the player.

Worth it

Kalajdzic joined Stuttgart in 2019 and is seen as one of the main reasons for the side’s dramatic upturn since securing promotion to the Bundesliga.

His 14 league goals this term have seen the German side in the hunt for European qualification and he’s on-fire at the moment, with nine in his last 10 Bundesliga games.

Given his towering presence, it is clear that he would be a great target man – something the Hammers desperately need to spearhead the attack.

He’s relatively pacey for a player that tall and is a physical player, being an aerial threat in both boxes.

Standing at 6ft 7in, the Austrian is the tallest player in the Bundesliga, but despite his towering presence, he is extremely adept at dropping deep and bringing other players into the game.

That falls perfectly into the David Moyes blueprint as the Scot puts vital importance on making the most of dead-ball situations.

West Ham have scored a league-high 15 goals from set pieces this season and signing Kalajdzic could help the team be even more menacing from free kicks and corners.

But, with the growing interest in the player, it remains to see between now and August which team makes a move for him.

He certainly passes the eye test and would surely walk into the Hammers eleven.
