Tottenham in £50m Lucas Paqueta move as details emerge on West Ham talks
Tottenham are showing a concrete interest in West Ham United attacker Lucas Paqueta.
Paqueta has been strongly linked with a move away from West Ham this month, as David Sullivan faces the grim reality that a number of the Hammers’ best players may start getting poached from them as their struggle with Premier League survival deepens.
It’s understood that Paqueta wants to return to Brazil either this month or in the summer, and the 28-year-old wasn’t part of Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad that defeated QPR in the FA Cup on Sunday.
Paqueta has agreed personal terms with Flamengo, providing him with the opportunity to fulfil his transfer desires.
However, a spanner from across London has now been thrown into the works.
Tottenham drop bombshell Lucas Paqueta bid
Just when things appeared to be aligning for a return to his homeland, a new contender has emerged for Paqueta‘s signature.
As per a post from journalist Rodrigo Mattos – who writes for Brazilian news outlet UOL (Universo Online) – via X on Monday, Tottenham have made a £50million bid for Paqueta.

Mattos states that Flamengo have held a meeting on Monday with West Ham to discuss their potential deal for the 28-year-old, and also corroborates the fact that Paqueta wants to return to Brazil.
However, Tottenham have now entered the race, but Mattos claims that Paqueta isn’t interested in signing for Spurs.
West Ham surely wouldn’t entertain Spurs sale even if Paqueta pushes for it
The London Stadium is not a happy place at the moment despite their aforementioned FA Cup win last time out, with those in positions of power at boardroom level far from the most popular people at the club right now.
But with West Ham rapidly sinking towards Championship football, there is a growing reality setting in that it won’t just be second tier football in 2026-27, but many of their better players will be searching for escape routes.
- Paqueta began his career with Flamengo
- He made 95 appearances for them, scoring 18 goals
- He left to sign for AC Milan in January 2019
However, there are some clubs you simply don’t sell your star player to, and a bitter inter-city rival is one of them, regardless of how good or bad the situation is.
Therefore, even if Paqueta wanted the Tottenham move, West Ham supporters would surely at least entrust the Hammers’ decision-makers to not do a deal such as that one.
