Tomas Soucek stance on West Ham United exit shared after Guido Rodriguez transfer update

Tomas Soucek is happy and settled at West Ham United despite the fact he is facing an uncertain future at the London Stadium, according to Give Me Sport.

The outlet reported on its website on Monday (5 August) that the Czech international could be set to fall down the pecking order under Julen Lopetegui as the Hammers close in on the signing of Guido Rodriguez.

Lopetegui has opted to revamp the midfield left behind by David Moyes and that could leave the 29-year-old fighting for a starting role under the former Real Madrid manager at the start of the season.

Reports have seen Soucek linked with a move to Turkey with Fenerbache where he could star under Joe Mourinho if he does decide to call time on his spell with the Hammers [Fanatik, 4 August].

Will Tomas Soucek exit West Ham United after new transfer developments?

While Soucek was an ever-present for the majority of the best moments of the Moyes era at the London Stadium, the time may well have come for him to take the next step in his career and exit East London.

The Czech international still has plenty to offer in a claret and blue shirt and any club that secured his signature would be lucky to do so, but with the new arrivals due this summer, it is hard to see where he fits in under Lopetegui.

Edson Alvarez and Rodriguez will likely be regular starters, while Lucas Paqueta is an all-but-guaranteed pick in attacking midfield while he is available, which leaves James Ward-Prowse and Soucek scrapping for minutes.

With not European football also on the agenda this season, Lopetegui will have fewer opportunities to rest and rotate his squad this term which will make it harder for players on the fringes of the squad to get consistent minutes.

If Soucek is happy to fight for his place as has been suggested, there is no harm in keeping him around for the start of the season. But at 29, you’d imagine he will be eager to be a regular starter either with West Ham or somewhere else.
