Tom Skinner shares why West Ham United should sign ‘unbelievable’ Jesse Lingard

Tom Skinner believes there is no reason why Jesse Lingard can’t be “great again” as the midfielder is looking to earn a deal at West Ham.

Speaking on talkSPORT on 14 September (09:41am), the guest said the England international was “unbelievable” during his spell on loan with the Hammers in 2021.

He added that the Irons fans would “welcome him home” after the 30-year-old previously snubbed the club in favour of a move to Nottingham Forest last summer.

“Like you said, he scored nine goals in the first 15 games, he was unbelievable,” said Skinner. “He was really good, I just think he went to Forest and I don’t know why. He went where the money is and it’s obviously not worked out.

“West Ham would welcome him home. He’s a good player, he would be good for us, he was great for us a couple of years ago and there’s no reason why he can’t be great again.”

Point to prove

There is no doubt that Lingard has a point to prove on the back of what was an incredibly disappointing year for him at Nottingham Forest.

But Skinner is right that, if he can recapture the form he showed previously at West Ham, then the fans would welcome him back and get behind him.

But there are questions marks around whether or not he is still good enough to perform at the Premier League level on the back of his time at the City Ground.

David Moyes has offered him the opportunity to impress, having trained with the rest of the Hammers’ squad over the past few weeks.

It’s so far unclear whether he will be offered a permanent deal, but a short-term contract could be worth the risk given the quality he has shown previously at the London Stadium.

In other West Ham news, a journalist has shared how one signing could be made after the Hammers’ recent actions.
