Tim Vickery shares West Ham United worry over Luis Guilherme live on talkSPORT
South American football correspondent Tim Vickery has explained his one concern regarding new West Ham signing Luis Guilherme.
Earlier this summer, the Hammers confirmed the signing of Guilherme from Palmeiras. Ever since then, fans have been pretty excited to see how the 18-year-old is going to fare.
During an appearance on talkSPORT (7 August), the aforementioned Vickery gave his view on Guilherme’s future, saying he is concerned that the money they’ve spent on his signature might add undue pressure on the forward.
“Luis Guilherme you’ve got no idea, it’s lots of raw potential, very, very quick, nice left foot, usually an inverted winger playing wide right and cutting in. He can play a little more central then cut in better at goal because he has got a shot on him,” the South American football expert said.
“But he’s scored a grand total of one professional goal in this career…one. It was a great goal, won a game for them but that’s the only one.
“So my worry with him is they’ve spent so much money on him that there’s this pressure for him to produce, you know ‘we’ve spent £25million on you do something’ and we’ll see, he may hit the ground running but this might be one where he needs time to live up to that transfer fee.”
West Ham’s star boy?
There’s no denying that there’s pressure on the shoulders of Guilherme. After all, he’s coming over from one of the most prestigious clubs in Brazil, for whom he made quite the impression. In his last five games alone, he averaged a rating of 7.18 (Sofascore). He thrives on proving people wrong and we’re excited to see him do so again.

However, the good news is that not all of the pressure is on him. The Hammers are bringing in new signings all the time, including Crysencio Summerville. They aren’t the same player, but Summerville has far more experience in English football.
When you throw Niclas Fullkrug into the mix, it becomes clear to see that this is going to be a team effort. Julen Lopetegui is forming the kind of squad that is more than capable of pushing for a place in Europe. That’s a testament to what David Moyes has been building for the last few years, and it’s hard not to be excited.
