West Ham United agree £34m deal for Jean-Clair Todibo – Fabrizio Romano
Tim Steidten has jetted out to Nice as West Ham United attempt to hijack Juventus’ deal for Jean-Clair Todibo, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The transfer specialist reported via X on Thursday (8 August) that the Hammers and the French club have reached an agreement to see the defender move to the London Stadium for a fee of around £34million.
Steidten and his team are attempting to book a medical for Friday to sign the centre-back as Nice and Juventus are still yet to reach an agreement, despite holding transfer talks for weeks.
Will West Ham United sign Jean-Clair Todibo in transfer hijack?
It had seemed as though the Hammers had missed the boat for this transfer, but Steidten and his team had done everything in their power to try and get their man, even when the odds were stacked against them.
Julen Lopetegui has always wanted to revamp his defence at the London Stadium and while he has already secured the signature of Max Kilman, that alone wasn’t going to be enough.
In Todibo, the Hammers boss will be securing an excellent modern defender who is just as comfortable in possession as he is without the ball. Something that can’t really be said of either Kurt Zouma or Konstantinos Mavropanos.
This deal isn’t completed yet however and it remains to be seen if the Frenchman will be interested in making the summer move to the London Stadium.
Until the pen is put to paper by the centre-back, fans will be anxious that a deal could well fall through.
Hopefully, the medical and the final stages of the transfer will go off without a hitch. It will be interesting to see how many more signings Lopetegui and Steidten feel they need before the new season gets underway.
