The three West Ham players you may have forgotten are still at the London Stadium

There are still a handful of West Ham United players loitering in the London Stadium shadows.

Following relegation from the Premier League, this summer was a natural and needed opportunity to overhaul Nuno Espirito Santo's squad.

No less than 16 players left E20 in some capacity over the duration of the transfer window.

Many of these, such as Crysencio Summerville, Jean-Clair Todibo and Mateus Fernandes were always expected to depart.

However, there is a few players who've perhaps surprisingly survived the summer cull.

West Ham Zone picks out three of those players who many Hammers fans may not even realise are still on the books.

Which West Ham winger is back at the London Stadium after disastrous loan stint?

It seems like an awful long time ago since Maxwel Cornet joined West Ham from Burnley in the summer of 2022.

The Hammers triggered his £17.5million release clause to poach him from Turf Moor.

However, he's not kicked a competitive ball for the Irons since the 2023-24 season, spending the last two campaigns out on loan.

In 2024-25, he played just four times for Southampton in the first half of that term, before spending the second half of it with Serie A outfit Genoa.

After scoring twice and providing one assist in seven games during that spell, Genoa signed him on a season-long loan deal again last term.

However, he only managed to play eight times in all competitions, providing zero goal contributions.

Cornet is contracted with West Ham until 2027, and the club haven't been able to find a new home for him this summer.

As a result, he's still on the books at the London Stadium, but there's every chance he doesn't play a single minute this season.

West Ham turned down late bids for midfield outcast

It was reported that Sevilla and Bologna both made offers for Soungoutou Magassa ahead of the transfer deadline.

The 22-year-old is understood to have been keen to explore a move away from the London Stadium.

However, that didn't end up materialising for the Frenchman, who only joined from Monaco last summer.

Magassa hasn't played a single minute of competitive action for the Hammers so far this season.

As a result, he appears firmly down the pecking order and may be completely exiled until the winter window opens.

There is also a player between the sticks whom Hammers fans may have totally forgotten is still part of Nuno's squad.

West Ham couldn't shift veteran shot-stopper this summer

Mads Hermansen is now the undisputed number one goalkeeper for West Ham.

Even 20-year-old academy graduate Finlay Herrick has 90 minutes under his belt this term, after being in goal for the 4-1 Carabao Cup win over Southampton.

There is one other senior goalkeeper still on West Ham's books, however, and that's Alphonse Areola.

The 33-year-old appears to have a fractured relationship with Nuno, and wasn't in the matchday squad for the recent win over Wolves.

He was on the bench against Charlton, Burnley and Portsmouth, but it would appear that Nuno is now ready to exile him completely.
