Niclas Fullkrug is desperate to leave West Ham - and he is about to get his wish.

The striker was signed in August 2024 in a £27million deal, but never hit the heights expected of him in East London

He scored a total of three goals in 29 matches for the Hammers, never truly settling in England.

Nuno Espirito Santo has not been able to trust him, and an exit was the likely outcome for all parties this summer.

It appears that Fullkrug has gone out of his way to make sure that a move happens.

And a new update suggests that a transfer is imminent for the Irons flop.

What has Niclas Fullkrug done to leave West Ham?

The 33-year-old has went to extreme lengths to secure a London Stadium exit this summer.

Sky Sports Germany's Patrick Berger reported via X on Monday that the German is closing on a "sensational" Bundesliga return.

He claimed that the forward is set for a medical with Werder Bremen on Tuesday, for a loan switch, and is already flying to Germany.

His report states the player is waiving his salary to secure the move, showing the lengths he is going to to get out of West Ham.

Why Fullkrug and West Ham were never meant to work out

It was a huge gamble for the E20 club to sign him in the first place, as he was 31 and had never played in English football.

He was coming off a 16 goal and 10 assist season as he helped Borussia Dortmund to the Champions League final, but there was never a guarantee that he would succeed.

He has constantly been struck down with injuries in his time in England, missing 31 games for club and country since he made the move.

The veteran spent the second half of last season on loan with AC Milan, but they chose not to activate the buy option that was part of that deal.

Hopefully the loan with the German side contains a similar agreement and he can thrive there, leading to getting him off Nuno's side's books once and for all.

If he can't, and they decide that they don't want him permanently when the temporary deal expires, the Hammers will be left in the same position once again.

Trying to shift him next summer may prove to be difficult if he struggles in his homeland.
