Tammy Abraham transfer twist emerges at West Ham United after Roma exit update
West Ham United sources insist that there is “no substance” in transfer links with Roma striker Tammy Abraham, according to Sean Whetstone.
Whetstone reported via the West Ham Football X account on Sunday (25 August) that sources close to the London Stadium suggest that there is no truth in suggestions the Irons are interested in the England international.
Reports emerged from within Italy that the Hammers were progressing with a deal for the former Chelsea man after Julen Lopetegui’s side made an offer close to Roma’s valuation [Gianluca Di Marzio, 25 August].
Whetstone had reported earlier in the summer transfer window that sources close to West Ham had labelled speculation around Abraham’s future as “nonsense” [West Ham Football, 19 August].
Will Tammy Abraham exit Roma amid West Ham transfer rumours?
While the Hammers are still expected to complete more business before the transfer window slams shut at the end of next week, it appears unlikely that Abraham will be one of the faces through the London Stadium door.
The England international is undoubtedly a talented player and he would add an extra option to Lopetegui’s ranks this season, but his recent injury record is a major cause for concern.
Partner that with the fact that the Hammers have already spent big money on Niclas Fullkrug and with neither Michail Antonio nor Danny Ings have been sold this term and the Irons seem to have plenty of striking options at their disposal.
Perhaps, there could be some genuine interest from the Irons if one or two players exit East London in the final days of the transfer window, but at the moment, any last-gasp transfer seems incredibly unlikely.
Of course, that can change in just a matter of minutes at this stage of the summer. Who knows what could occur before the window slams shut on the 30 August?
