Tammy Abraham exit update emerges at Roma amid West Ham United transfer talks

West Ham United and Roma have held talks over Tammy Abraham, but no transfer is close at this time, according to Matteo Moretto.

The transfer journalist reported via his Daily Briefing column (25 August) that discussions between the two clubs are not thought to have progressed in recent days, despite reports suggesting otherwise.

Roma are keen to move the England international on this summer as he is one of their highest earners and manager Daniel De Rossi doesn’t view him as an essential part of his project in the Italian capital.

Reports in Italy have suggested that the Hammers are on their way to securing a deal for Abraham before the transfer deadline with a loan-to-buy deal the most likely outcome [Gazzetta dello Sport, 26 August].

Will Tammy Abraham exit Roma amid West Ham transfer rumours?

While the Hammers are clearly interested in signing Abraham this summer, nobody appears to be sure if a deal for the Englishman is close at this stage with multiple sources currently contradicting one another.

Julen Lopetegui has already bolstered his attacking ranks this summer with the signing of Niclas Fullkrug and while the German international is yet to get off the mark, he has looked bright in his first couple of outings in claret and blue.

Abraham could potentially offer some competition and support for the former Borussia Dortmund man if he arrived in East London, but his injury record and large wages could prove to be stumbling blocks for any potential deal.

On top of that, West Ham haven’t been able to sell either Danny Ings or Michail Antonio so far this summer. Unless one of the two exit-linked strikers departs, there doesn’t really appear to be space for Abraham in Lopetegui’s squad.

Of course, things can change at the drop of a hat at this stage of the summer so it will be interesting to see whether or not talks progress ahead of the 30 August deadline.
