David Sullivan could sanction a deal at West Ham for Julen Lopetegui to sign Ibrahim Maza from Hertha Berlin, according to Caught Offside.

The online outlet reported on Friday 1 November that the Spaniard has identified the 18-year-old as his next transfer target for the Hammers.

The versatile forward is a player that the Irons head coach believes fits the long-term plans in East London and the intensity of the Premier League.

Sullivan could sanction a move, if Lopetegui makes it to the January window as manager, but will face competition from the likes of Brentford and Leicester City who have also been looking at the Algeria international.

Julen Lopetegui wants Ibrahim Maza at West Ham

A win against Manchester United last time out has certainly eased some of the pressure on the ex-Real Madrid boss at the London Stadium.

It has been far from the dream start in his Premier League return after winning just three league games this campaign.

This has come as a surprise to some supporters given the quality of summer signings made with the likes of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Jean-Claire Todibo and Niclas Fullkrug coming in.

Things just haven't worked out as expected but it is clear that Lopetegui already has ideas of how to improve his side in the upcoming January window.

This could see him demand a move to bring Maza in from the 2. Bundesliga after the 18-year-old scored three and assisted one in his opening 10 games of the season.

It could prove to be a risk to bring in a young player in the hope that he has an impact but with excellent versatility to Algerian could be an ideal addition to the squad.

His ability to play as a centre midfielder, number 10 or striker could add useful versatility for Lopetegui in East London.
