Sullivan ‘green lights West Ham transfer spree’ with five deals on cards

David Sullivan appears to have just given the go-ahead for a West Ham transfer spree.

The Irons are one of the only Premier League teams who are yet to make a new signing so far this summer, with their obligation to buy Jean-Clair Todibo currently the only piece of incoming business at present.

West Ham seem close to signing El Hadji Malick Diouf, while they also hold an interest in the likes of Harvey Elliott and Juventus’ Douglas Luiz.

Graham Potter will know that he needs plenty of additions to his squad if he is to turn their fortunes around this term, and he looks to have just received the green light from upstairs to push ahead with more deals.

West Ham want to strengthen in several areas

The sale of Mohammed Kudus has seemingly opened up West Ham’s spending capabilities once again.

The East Londoners have been toeing the line of the Premier League’s PSR restrictions, but the Ghanaian’s departure to join Tottenham may have alleviated some of those concerns.

Sullivan and Co. now appear to be about to take advantage of that opportunity, with their plans having now emerged for the remainder of the window.

The Irons want to add fresh faces in several areas of the squad, with as many as five positions in line to be reinforced over the coming weeks, according to The Guardian (14 July).

They want to bring in a new goalkeeper, a left-sided centre back, two centre midfielders and a new striker, in a bid to bolster Potter’s options ahead of their return to competitive action on 16 August.

Sullivan has to provide resources this summer

The ongoing uncertainty surrounding Lucas Paqueta has added an unwanted complication to the E20 outfit’s summer, but Sullivan should be in no doubt as to what is needed from him in the next few weeks.

The Irons’ chief will have been as disappointed as anybody with their frustrating campaign last time out, and he simply must provide Potter with the resources to rebuild the team, otherwise, they could find themselves firmly in trouble.

West Ham briefly flirted with the bottom three after a catastrophic start last time out, and they must be careful not to suffer a similar fate this term, especially given that the three promoted sides are expected to put up more of a fight than their predecessors.

Potter has spent his entire reign so far trying to pick up the pieces from Julen Lopetegui’s disastrous spell, and now he desperately needs backing from Sullivan if he is to stamp his own authority on the side.
