Stuart Pearce reacts to ‘incredible’ West Ham transfer update as David Sullivan U-turns
West Ham need a strong finish to the January transfer window.
With Lucas Paqueta set to leave for Flamengo, Nuno Espirito Santo could have some money to play with in the final stages of the winter window.
West Ham’s 2-1 win over Tottenham on Saturday has provided the Hammers with a huge boost to their survival chances, and has alleviated the pressure that was building on Nuno.
David Sullivan has backed Nuno against the will of some senior figures, but that could well prove to be a masterstroke when it comes to holding his nerve, as West Ham look to pull off a great escape.

Stuart Pearce offers West Ham transfer advice amid Callum Wilson U-turn
Indeed, it was Callum Wilson who scored the winning goal in added time against Tottenham, instantly cementing his place in West Ham folklore for the scenes it caused in the away end.
Wilson is now set to stay at West Ham beyond this month, having previously expressed a desire to leave the London Stadium on a free transfer.
Should he do so, it would be a quite remarkable twist in his transfer timeline, as his Spurs heroics certainly appear to be a sliding doors moment for Wilson as a West Ham player.
In an update relayed on talkSPORT on Monday afternoon, Alex Crook said Wilson is staying at London Stadium after a U-turn by Sullivan.
Former West Ham defender Stuart Pearce offered his thoughts on the situation, as well as handing out some clear transfer advice to the Hammers’ hierarchy.
“It’s incredible,” Pearce said. “A lot of West Ham fans would have been underwhelmed by what he’s done this season, and yet one goal tips the balance totally.
“But they do need players. New centre-forwards have come in and you’re better off having the players than not.”
Why Nuno Espirito Santo should consider Wilson start
Having shown that despite being 33, he still possesses that predatory instinct for scoring goals, Wilson will no doubt have given Nuno food for thought.
His new signings Taty Castellanos and Pablo respectively haven’t really hit the ground running following their moves to the London Stadium, and appear to need time to adjust to English football.
Wilson, on the other hand, requires no such time, and has been scoring goals at Premier League level for many years now.

With West Ham in the relegation predicament they’re in, Nuno needs as many proven and trustworthy performers in his side as possible, and Wilson may just be his best bet to lead the line because of that.
The Hammers’ next game is on 24 January, where they will welcome one of the league’s big surprise packages of the 2025-26 season, Sunderland, to the London Stadium.
