Spotted: Gianluca Scamacca boards plane in West Ham United gear amid exit speculation

West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca has been spotted boarding a plane wearing Hammers clothing despite the ongoing speculation around his future.

The Italian forward has been heavily linked with a move to Roma, with the Serie A outfit’s sporting director Tiago Pinto reportedly set to hold talks with the East Londoners over a potential deal this week [Il Romanista].

But Scamacca has now posted an image on his Instagram account of himself onboard a plane wearing a West Ham sweatshirt alongside his compatriot Angelo Ogbonna.

The Hammers squad are flying out to Perth, Australia, where they will take on Perth Glory and rivals Tottenham Hotspur over the course of the next week.

Eyebrow-raising

This is likely to come as a surprise development to a number of people after reports in Italy have suggested that Scamacca is keen on a return to Italy, with the striker having his heart set on a return to Roma.

Since joining the club in a big-money move from Sassuolo last summer, the forward has struggled to recapture the form that led to him joining the Hammers and gaining recognition within the Italian national team setup.

While all the talk has been around him leaving, perhaps the fact that David Moyes wants him to join the club’s pre-season tour to Australia and that he has agreed to go along – even posting photos in West Ham gear – could suggest his future may still belong in East London.

He did also start for us up front alongside Danny Ings in last night’s 4-1 victory over Boreham Wood, suggesting that the Hammers boss is trying to find a way to fit him into his style of play.

This latest development raises all kinds of questions about what the future holds for Scamacca, but it looks like him remaining at the London Stadium is still a real possibility.

In other West Ham news, Sky Sports News have reported that the Hammers have held positive talks with Real Betis over the potential signing of Luiz Felipe.
