Southampton want to sign West Ham United star Danny Ings in summer transfer
Southampton are interested in re-signing West Ham United striker Danny Ings this summer after their promotion to the Premier League, according to talkSPORT.
Writing on their website (28 May), the news outlet report that the Saints are keen on a reunion with the 31-year-old forward as they look to add experience to their squad.
Ings is expected to leave the London Stadium after a torrid 18-month spell in east London, and Southampton are looking to “move swiftly” in the market to bring him in.
Time for Danny Ings to leave West Ham United
When the club moved to bring Ings in from Aston Villa in January 2023 it seemed like a very clever transfer for a proven Premier League goalscorer.
Described as a “phenomenal finisher” in the past, Ings scored 41 Premier League goals during his previous stint at Southampton and did well at Villa too before losing his place in the team to Ollie Watkins.
But it hasn’t really worked out for him at West Ham and he has managed just a handful of goals, failing to replace Michail Antonio as the first-choice striker.

With Julen Lopetegui coming into the club and looking to make changes, it now seems like the perfect opportunity for the player and club to go their separate ways and make a fresh start.
Ings can return to a team where he is well loved and help them stay in the league, while Lopetegui can use the extra cash to bring in someone he believes can improve the squad. Win-win.
In other West Ham news, the club have tabled a £9.7million offer for an “unbelievable” attacker.
