Sky Sports: West Ham United to formally announce Thilo Kehrer transfer update soon

Thilo Kehrer has finalised his initial loan move to Monaco from West Ham, according to Lyall Thomas.

The Sky Sports journalist tweeted on Friday (5 January) that the Germany international has completed his medical with the Ligue 1 club and that a formal announcement is expected soon.

Fabrizio Romano reported on Thursday (4 January) that the 27-year-old defender will join the French side on a loan deal worth £431,000, which will include a mandatory clause to buy him for £9.5million.

Good business

This is good business from West Ham as they look set to recoup pretty much all of the money they paid to sign Kehrer from PSG in 2022 for £10million.

Although the Hammers won’t receive a big fee immediately, it will mean his wages are off the books to allow other players to possibly come in this month.

The defender, who can play across the backline, is believed to be looking to play more minutes in the second half of the season in a bid to make the national team squad for the 2024 European Championships.

West Ham

The German has made 12 appearances this season, but he has only played 19 minutes in the Premier League after being kept out of the side by the form of Vladimir Coufal.

It’s pretty clear that his situation wasn’t going to change any time soon in East London, so moving him on now makes complete sense.

In other West Ham news, a Premier League manager has made a decision on a player the Hammers want to sign.
