Sergi Roberto ready for Premier League transfer with West Ham United serious
Barcelona defender Sergi Roberto has been seduced by a move to the Premier League amid serious interest from West Ham, according to Sport 45.
The Spanish source reported [28 July] that the 32-year-old free agent seems resigned to leaving the club this summer despite being offered a new contract, with Aston Villa also interested.
While all that was needed was for Roberto to put pen to paper, Barcelona had to “paralyse” everything due to their rule of spending one Euro for every Euro saved.
West Ham United close in on Sergi Roberto
Despite being 32 years of age, and making just 38 La Liga starts over the last four seasons, Roberto could be a significant signing for Julen Lopetegui this summer.
The new manager is searching for a new right-back, having missed out on Bayern Munich’s Noussair Mazraoui [Florian Plettenberg], and Roberto could be an even cheaper alternative to Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
The Spaniard is also capable of deputising in midfield, where he played for much of his career at the Nou Camp, and could help cover for the injured Edson Alvarez next season [Knees Up Mother Brown].
With Barcelona still wanting the veteran to continue at the club, and complete his 15th campaign with the La Liga side, the Hammers would be adding a decent player to the ranks.
He has played 373 appearances for Barcelone over the years, and despite only scoring 19 goals in that time, one of those will go down as one of the most important goals in history.

Roberto wrote himself into the history books after Barcelona’s 6-1 victory over PSG in the Champions League in 2015, overturning a first-leg 4-0 routing before the legendary second leg.
Lopetegui will have previous experience with the 32-year-old during his time with the Spain national team and will be keen to add more wisdom and depth to the squad ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
