Saudi insiders share Ivan Toney latest as West Ham ready January transfer

West Ham are hoping to bring Ivan Toney to the London Stadium in January, but may be forced into a permanent transfer.

Nuno Espirito Santo is fighting to keep West Ham in the Premier League this season and has openly stated the need for reinforcements in January.

The Hammers are currently having to rely on Callum Wilson for goals, as Niclas Fullkrug is nearing an exit with a permanent sale on the cards.

West Ham want to sign Toney on loan from his current side, Al Ahli, but the Saudi Arabian outfit are ironically facing financial struggles that could prevent the striker from coming to East London.

Al Ahly can’t spend money on an Ivan Toney replacement

Toney left Brentford in 2024 in a move that saw him increase his wages tenfold by joining Al Ahli.

Some questioned the 29-year-old’s ambition following the transfer, but his form has still seen Thomas Tuchel call the forward up to the England squad this year.

According to Alan Nixon on his Patreon, Saudi insiders have revealed that Al Ahli owners, PIF, cannot spend money on a new goalscorer.

This is due to them being under strict rules that prevent them from spending any more money, and a loan deal wouldn’t be enough to generate what is needed to make a difference in the market.

Both West Ham and Spurs are interested in Toney, but at this stage have expressed their desire for a loan move, not a permanent switch.

David Sullivan needs to show he backs Nuno Espirito Santo

There’s no reason why West Ham can’t go all out for Toney in January and spend the money needed to bring the Englishman permanently.

Nuno is showing that he is the man to lead a new era at E20, but he can’t do it all without the help of new additions.

The head coach has seemed to shore things up at the back for the Hammers slightly, and a new striker should be a priority in the winter market.

Toney would be a huge coup and would almost certainly be a lethal striker under Nuno’s stewardship.

The true extent of David Sullivan‘s faith in Nuno will be on display here, as West Ham clearly want to sign Toney, so the owner should put his money where his mouth is.
