Salernitana sporting director working to sign Gianluca Scamacca from West Ham United

Serie A club Salernitana want to sign Gianluca Scamacca from West Ham this summer, with sporting director Morgan De Sanctis working on a deal.

The Italian striker has had a tough debut campaign with the Hammers this year, hitting just seven goals in all competitions before being ruled out with a knee injury.

But according to Calciomercato he could be set for a return to his homeland with one club in particular looking to strike a deal.

West Ham

“Having now reached salvation, Salernitana tries the big blow in attack,” they wrote (17 May).

“According to some rumors arriving from England, sporting director De Sanctis is working to understand if there is room for a return to Italy for Gianluca Scamacca.”

Constant

The reports about the future of Scamacca are constant right now, and it seems as though his team may be looking for a way out of the London Stadium.

Already this season he has been linked with Atletico Madrid, Juventus, AC Milan and now Salernitana, while also changing agents.

It’s rare that there is smoke without fire and while the club are reportedly expecting him to stay at the club next season, it does seem odd that there is so much speculation surrounding him.

If he doesn’t want to be here then West Ham should be looking for a way to get him out without losing money on his deal, because we splashed out a large amount on him being our number one striker for the future.

But Michail Antonio is flying right now, and Danny Ings has been signed since too so we won’t be short if he does leave. Clearly though, it’s going to be a long summer.
