Said Benrahma final destination revealed at West Ham United after Lyon transfer saga rumbles on

West Ham United winger Said Benrahma has just been cleared to join French club Lyon, according to Ben Jacobs.

The journalist reported on X on Friday (2 February) that the Algerian can now move to the Ligue 1 outfit, in the latest part of his ongoing transfer saga.

The update from Jacobs comes after fellow journalist Fabrizio Romano reported on X earlier on Friday that the player’s proposed move had collapsed.

Done deal?

It looks like Benrahma’s painful saga has finally been brought to an end, with the attacker all set to join Lyon, having seemingly agreed to make the move long ago.

He will not have been happy that it has taken so long, with Lyon also furious with the Hammers for failing to do their part in the deal.

But given that the transfer has been cleared, the Premier League club must have gotten things in order, finally letting their winger make his desired move.

There is, of course, still uncertainty regarding the future of Benrahma’s fellow winger Pablo Fornals, who remains a West Ham player despite strong suggestions that he is joining Real Betis.

All the drama aside, if indeed the Hammers do end up losing both Benrahma and Fornals, it will leave manager David Moyes with a big problem.

The East London club did not bring in a new attacker in the recent transfer window, and with injuries and suspensions certain to play a part in the coming months, Moyes could be light in the final third.

Benrahma and Fornals haven’t exactly been first-team regulars at the London Stadium, but their presence in the squad undoubtedly makes West Ham stronger.
