Roshane Thomas: West Ham United offered Jesse Lingard two-year deal and were satisfied

West Ham United offered Jesse Lingard a two-year deal to return to the London Stadium before the 29-year-old finalised a move to Nottingham Forest according to Roshane Thomas.

The East Midlands club confirmed the signing of the 29-year-old free agent on a one-year deal (21 July), with The Guardian suggesting that Lingard’s wages could reach £200,000-a-week.

It has since been revealed by The Athletic’s Thomas on Friday 22 July that West Ham had offered Lingard a longer deal and were satisfied with their proposal to the former Manchester United man.

Move on

It is safe to say that when West Ham travel to Forest on 14 August, the attacking midfielder will not receive a warm welcome from the travelling section at the City Ground and that will be completely justified.

Lingard would’ve been lorded had he returned to the London Stadium after his stellar loan spell in the second half of the 2020/21 season.

Sadly, the 29-year-old optimises everything that is wrong with the modern game at present with the newly promoted club completely shattering their wage structure in order to sign the England international.

West Ham

Ludicrous doesn’t even touch the surface when it comes to what Lingard thinks his services are worth.

He would rather be part of a relegation-threatened side and earn slightly more money than be part of a side that will more than likely be competing for the top-six again next season.

Furthermore, Lingard has taken far too long to decide his future this summer and as a result, David Moyes has missed out or refused to sign other targets.

Hopefully, now the Lingard saga has been put to bed, the Irons can add a number of attacking additions with talks progressing for Gianluca Scamacca and Armando Broja.
