Roma set to make improved offer Gianluca Scamacca, West Ham United demands shared

AS Roma are set to make an improved bid for West Ham United star Gianluca Scamacca “in hours” after his public admission of interest in joining them, according to Calciomercato.

The Italian striker has been subject to interest all summer with several clubs in Serie A linked with a move, but he admitted in an interview that it would be a “dream” to move to the club he supported as a boy – Jose Mourinho’s Roma.

And now they look set to make an improved bid after previous attempts were rejected, with better financial implications although West Ham’s demands have now come to light too.

“In these hours Roma will raise the bar by increasing the amount of the onerous loan and thanks to the thrust of the attacker who in the Giallorossi could re-evaluate himself also in the future,” they wrote (12 July).

“West Ham is taking time, but would like to tick at least the obligation linked to qualifying for the Champions League.”

Sensible

Scamacca quite clearly has his mind set on a return back to Italy and the move to the Premier League that we were all so excited about has come back to bite us.

He had a phenomenal season in Italy before joining us, but his time in England has been terrible because of injuries and a lack of form.

But we spent a lot of money on signing him and he has plenty of time remaining on his contract, so there is absolutely no reason why we should be out of pocket if he decides that he wants to leave now.

If Roma are insisting on a loan deal and Scamacca doesn’t want to stick around then we have little choice but to agree to that, but the least we can do to guarantee ourselves a good outcome is to put an obligation into the deal.

If they have to reach certain obligations to fulfil that then fair enough, but ultimately we need to be the team that wins in this deal and that’s one way to ensure it.
