Roma reach full agreement with Gianluca Scamacca as loan-to-buy deal nears completion

West Ham have finally agreed a loan-to-buy deal for Gianluca Scamacca to join Roma this summer, with personal terms already agreed between both parties, according to CalcioMercato.

The Italian outlet [29 July] report that the striker has been looking for a move back to his native country, and the two clubs are now close to agreeing on all the terms of the deal, with Roma’s general manager Pinto flying to London next week to close the deal.

West Ham were hopeful of recouping some of the £30m they spent to sign Scamacca only a year ago and therefore have opted to negotiate an expensive loan deal, with Roma set to pay £3.4-£4.3m to secure his services for the year.

There will then be an option to make the deal permanent for £19m if Roma are to qualify for the Champions League and Scamacca in consistently involved and agrees with the move, however, West Ham don’t want a permanent deal to be based on European qualification by Jose Mourinho’s side.

But those in charge in Rome are travelling to London with the aim of bringing the 24-year-old with them and the striker is already expecting to be back in Italy next season.

Time to get rid

While West Ham are right to be slightly wary of agreeing to a deal that is reliant on Roma’s performance this coming season, financially this appears to be a deal that would suit all parties, especially if that clause can be removed.

Scamacca clearly has no interest in remaining at the London Stadium any longer than he has to, he has already removed any mention of being a West Ham player from his social media profile.

David Moyes is already facing enough media attention due to the Irons’ lack of incoming transfer business this summer and the last thing he needs is an unhappy player being the focus of his pre-season preparations for any longer.

While there will always be those that ask, ‘what if it clicked in his second season?’ West Ham can’t take that chance and getting what will be one of the bigger wages at the London Stadium off their books could help their pursuit of other targets.

Hopefully, this transfer saga that has already dragged on for months is finally beginning to reach its conclusion.

In other West Ham news, one of the Irons’ summer targets is available for £17m this summer
