Roggerio Nyakossi entourage agreement reached as West Ham eye new defender

West Ham are eyeing Roggerio Nyakossi as the answer to their problems in defence.

Nuno Espirito Santo is keen on bolstering his backline after the Hammers completed the signings of attackers Pablo and Taty Castellanos.

Nyakossi has been tracked by the Hammers after impressing when captaining Switzerland’s Under-21 side.

A report from Belgian outfit Nieuwsblad on 8 January claims that OH Leuven have an agreement with the player’s entourage that he can leave.

What is West Ham target Nyakossi’s agreement with Leuven?

West Ham have enquired about Nyakossi’s availability this month, but it appears that they are set to be disappointed in their pursuit of the 6’4 defender.

The report claims that the Belgian outfit wants to keep the 21-year-old in the January window and has no intention of doing business with interested clubs.

It states that the agreement is that talks around an exit can begin in February, once the transfer market has closed.

Who else could West Ham target for a defensive signing?

If they cannot sign Nyakossi, then the Hammers will surely move on and look elsewhere for an addition at the back.

Charlie Cresswell, the former Leeds United academy starlet, is one name that has been mentioned often when it comes to the East London club.

Another is Flamengo’s Leo Pereira, but the Brazilian side does not want to sell the 29-year-old, so that may be difficult.

They have also been linked with Chelsea man Axel Disasi, but that would surely not provide much confidence, given that he has looked shaky in the Premier League.

One thing is for sure, they cannot go on with the likes of Max Kilman, Konstantinos Mavropanos and Jean-Clair Todibo being the main options in the backline, as they will be relegated to the Championship if they do.

David Sullivan and Karren Brady have acted quickly to secure forward reinforcements, they now need to do the same for the other side of the pitch.

If Nyakossi is truly not available, they need to move on, and bring someone else in, rather than wasting time on a player from the Belgian league who is not exactly ripping up trees over there.
