Report: West Ham fail with £7m offer for back-up keeper of choice

It is clear that West Ham United are in the market for a new goalkeeper in the January transfer window.

The Hammers are not confident in David Martin and Roberto as back-up options, and with Lukasz Fabianski limping off injured in the 1-0 defeat against Sheffield United, they are light on options.

Many names have been thrown into the hat, such as Championship duo Neil Ethridge and Darren Randolph.

Middlesbrough and former Irons stopper, Randolph, appeared to be on his way to the London Stadium after a bid was accepted, but there are doubts over his fitness.

With the Hammers board anxious over Randolph, a bid has been launched for Cardiff keeper Ethridge, who was on the bench for the fierce derby with Swansea on Sunday.

Claret and Hugh have reported that the bid has since been rejected by the Bluebirds. The club source revealed on their website that it was a £7million bid and that the club are still waiting on Randolph as an alternative.

It was first reported by Football Insider that the bid was tabled, and suggested that Ethridge was an alternative viewed as someone who could slot straight into the starting 11 if needed too.

With Fabianski seen as a doubt for the game against Everton, unless something dramatically changes in the week, one of either Martin or Roberto would fill in for the Pole.

Both have failed to fill fans with confidence in their recent performances, and David Moyes will hope for progress in the week to hopefully change that potential predicament.
