Report – West Ham player who has been 19/20 regular set for Euro exit
West Ham goalkeeper Roberto Jimenez is set for a return to Spain after a disastrous spell in the English game, according to Claret & Hugh.
The stopper was drafted in as a deputy to Lukasz Fabianski over the summer, but found himself thrust into the limelight after the Pole picked up an injury in a clash against Bournemouth back in September.
But the veteran keeper struggled with the rigours of the English game, making a number of costly errors that contributed to a marked slump in form for the Hammers.
Despite his calamitous run, however, it is understood that Spanish side Alaves are willing to offer him an escape route from his nightmare in East London with a loan swoop this month.
A club source reportedly told Claret & Hugh: “It’s a good move from all points of view as he needs to play, while a loan move would allow us to get him into the shop window as he has 18 months left on his contract with us.”
Is this a good move for West Ham?
Without a shadow of a doubt, yes.
Roberto could end up going down in infamy as one of the club’s worst ever signings, and that really is saying something.
He may have only featured eight times for the Hammers, but during that dreadful spell he conceded 17 goals, made two errors leading directly to goals, and put one in his own net for good measure, as per the Premier League themselves.
In fact, his reputation was so damaged by his brief stint between the sticks that it’s hard to see how he could ever pull on a West Ham shirt again.
With Darren Randolph already drafted in this window, the sooner Roberto can be moved on the better for everybody involved, including the player himself.
In other news, Paul Robinson suggests West Ham star could be liability.
