Report: West Ham eye BSC Young Boys defender Mohamed Ali Camara

West Ham are one of five English suitors for BSC Young Boys defender Mohamed Ali Camara, according to TEAMtalk.

The online news outlet claims the Irons are monitoring the 23-year-old alongside Premier League rivals Liverpool, Arsenal and Crystal Palace, while Championship leaders Norwich City are also keeping tabs ahead of their return to the top-flight next season.

Camara made his one and only Guinea national team appearance in 2018 but he has experience in continental competitions with Swiss side Young Boys, after appearing in six of their Europa League games this season.

He also has four Champions League group stage appearances to his name from the 2018/19 campaign, which included a red card against Juventus.

That hot-headedness came out once again in December when his punch on ex-Arsenal attacker Henrikh Mkhitaryan drew a red card and racked up the views on BT Sport’s Twitter and Instagram, with both posts receiving nearly 600,000 views combined and over 65,000 interactions.

The new Pique?

While he’s not featured much for Guinea he’s highly thought of in his homeland with online outlet GuineeFoot calling him ‘Gerard Pique’ in 2017, after the Spanish icon who has racked up countless trophies with Barcelona over the past decade.

That’s some major praise of his abilities, and he’s certainly backing it up in the Swiss Super League.

Pique is famed for his ball-playing abilities from the back, and Camara is showing similar qualities, with an 89.92% pass completion in the league this season, placing him 13th in the division. [Wyscout]

That comfort on the ball is sure to translate well to the Premier League, even if he is playing for a dominant Young Boys side who are 25 points clear in the top-tier of Switzerland.

He might have to tone down his temperament however, with two red cards already this season.
