Report: Roma to terminate contract of West Ham target Edin Dzeko

West Ham United have been handed a major transfer boost as Edin Dzeko’s £125k-a-week contract at Roma is likely to be terminated.

According to FC Inter News, Roma and Dzeko have already begun contract termination talks and are expected to part ways with each other at the end of the season.

His contract was set to expire at the end of the 2021/22 campaign, but the Italian side aren’t keen to keep the player on their payroll beyond June.

This would mean that the Bosnian would be a free agent, which would be music to West Ham’s ears, who were linked with a move for the striker earlier this year by Sky Sports.

However, champions-elect Inter Milan are also reportedly interested in his services, so signing him could be a complicated affair in the summer.

Worth pursuing

Dzeko’s best days are undoubtedly behind him, but he is known to be a prolific striker, and his experience would certainly rub off on some of the younger players at the club.

These days many strikers in their early 30s are signed by top clubs on short-term deals and often work out to be beneficial for both parties.

The fact that Inter and Antonio Conte are keen on him tells us that he’s still got something left in the tank, and getting him on a free on a one-year deal would not be the worst idea if the funds kept aside to sign a striker can be allocated elsewhere.

There certainly would be concerns about the player’s attitude as he was stripped of his captaincy after a falling out with manager Paulo Fonseca.

Whether it’s due to that or the fact that he’s 35, Roma are unwilling to have him around the club even though Fonseca is rumoured to be on his way out at the end of the season.

Despite not featuring extensively, Dzeko still has 11 goals in all competitions to his name, and it could well worth pursuing his transfer in the summer.
