Report: Danish youngster in London to undergo West Ham medical

West Ham have won the race to sign Silkeborg defender Frederik Alves with Danish outlet BT reporting that the 20-year-old is undergoing a medical in London ahead of a move in January.

According to BT, the deal will cost West Ham up to £1.4million and the Denmark Under-21 international’s contract will last until the summer of 2024.

Alves has made eight appearances in the Nordicbet Liga this season and has helped Silkeborg to two clean sheets in those games.

The 20-year-old looks to be a prospect and Hammers fans shouldn’t expect him to come straight into the first team.

The defence has been a problem area of the pitch for the Hammers in recent years and it now looks as if the club are trying to scout young talent who can develop into top defenders.

Perhaps this new approach comes after West Ham failed in bids for proven centre backs like James Tarkowski and Wesley Fofana this summer. The Hammers were priced out of a move for Tarkowski while Fofana chose to sign for Leicester.

Fabian Balbuena, Angelo Ogbonna and Aaron Cresswell started as a back three in West Ham’s last outing as the Hammers lost 2-1 at Anfield.

Signing a new centre back in January is a good move by the club as their current defenders have been fairly hit and miss this season.

In other West Ham news, Ryan Fredericks could leave the London Stadium in January.
