Real assault begins today for Gianluca Scamacca transfer at West Ham United

Roma are set to begin their real assault on West Ham United striker Gianluca Scamacca, as the Italian forward could return to Italy this summer, according to Gazzetta Dello Sport.

The Italian newspaper has reported in its print edition [31 July, pg 10] that Jose Mourinho’s side will begin a real push for the 24-year-old striker with a £19.7m or bigger bid expected this week as they aim to reinforce their frontline.

Scamacca has been very open in his desire to join the Italian giants this summer, openly admitting he wants to return to the Italian capital and Roma are admirers, but so far nobody has been able to agree on a fee with West Ham to secure his services.

But now the Giallorossi are set to truly test West Ham’s resolve with a bid nearing £20m as Mourinho has become impatient with the wait for a new forward given Tammy Abraham’s serious injury at the end of last season.

The Italian side are open to selling Abraham next summer in a bid to fund the purchase of Scamacca in this transfer window, but Inter Milan also remain interested in the West Ham striker, with the Nerazzurri having money to invest having decided not to sign Romelu Lukaku.

Cut your losses

While £20m may feel like a good deal for a player who has barely featured in the last campaign for the Hammers, it doesn’t look quite as good a piece of business when you remember that they paid over £35m last year.

The Hammers are never going to get that sort of fee after the Italian had the sort of year that he did in the Premier League, but with both Inter and Roma interested they may be able to earn a bit more than £20m.

West Ham United

For David Moyes, the extra money through the door at the London Stadium could well be a blessing and a curse. They’ve found completing incoming business difficult enough since the entire world found out they had more than £100m to spend courtesy of Declan Rice, an extra chunk of money won’t make that any easier.

But with Scamacca being very open in his desire to leave and his lack of interest in being a success in East London, it may well be best to take the money and forget this entire deal ever happened, with a new striker able to be acquired courtesy of the extra change.

This entire saga has run on for long enough this summer and it would be best for all parties involved if it could finally just come to an end.
