Reading announce sale of Thierry Nevers to West Ham
Highly-rated young forward Thierry Nevers will complete a move to West Ham next month, according to his current club Reading.
Irons insider ExWHUemployee wrote on his personal Twitter profile on Monday that a deal was in the works over a free contract for the “highly-rated” youngster, after Nevers rejected a new deal at the Berkshire club.
Talks look to have developed at pace after Reading announced on Twitter on Tuesday morning that a move has been agreed with the 19-year-old set to link up with the East London club in June.
However, as detailed on their club website, Reading will receive a fee for him, contrary to Ex’s report.
The Championship outfit claim an “undisclosed fee” has been agreed after a clause was triggered in his contract that extended his Royals deal until 2022.
First of many?
It’s a more low-key capture by the Irons board but it shows that we are not about to stand still ahead of a huge campaign next season.
Europa League qualification will bring with it some unique challenges, ones we have not faced for some time.
Our squad is likely to be stretched with the extended fixture list and thus we need to add to the side.
Nevers is unlikely to be thrown straight into the action and instead he will probably begin with the West Ham Under-23s who struggled in the 2020/21 Premier League 2 campaign.
But our second-string could end up playing an important role this season and there are likely to be a number who make matchday squads to fill our bench quota.
