PSG pursuit of West Ham duo exposes harsh reality about Nuno Espirito Santo
West Ham will have been well aware of the consequences that coincide with relegation, with player exits among the most prominent.
A whole host of stars have already been linked with exits from the London Stadium, with some huge clubs said to be keen.
Mateus Fernandes, Crysencio Summerville and Jarrod Bowen are the three names that have been mentioned the most, which comes as no surprise given their contributions last season.
The former has been linked with several Premier League clubs, including Man United, though that interest may have cooled.
With that said, an exit for both Fernandes and Summerville appears likely, with PSG keen on securing a double deal.
PSG interest makes one thing clear at West Ham
On paper, that West Ham side should never have even been at risk of relegation, never mind actually having suffered it.
And that is only amplified by the fact that PSG, the winners of back-to-back Champions League titles, are willing to set aside around £120million to sign Fernandes and Summerville.
Add Bowen, Konstantinos Mavropanos and Aaron Wan-Bissaka to the mix, and serious questions have to be asked as to how Nuno Espirito Santo couldn't keep the Hammers in the Premier League.
The former Forest boss had the tools at his disposal and failed to utilise them, which certainly demonstrates how he was a big part of the problem at the London Stadium.
Could West Ham still sack Nuno?
The Irons have to be promoted next season; there's no ifs or buts about it.
And for now, Nuno will be the man in the dugout tasked with acheicing that
However, as soon as form looks unlikely to meet those ambitions, then the Irons will have to make a decision that could see him moved on.
For now, his job is safe, but West Ham will have to hit the ground running in the Championship if it is to remain that way.
