Porto want to sign Nayef Aguerd as West Ham defender stance emerges on exit
Porto are interested in signing West Ham United defender Nayef Aguerd, according to Santi Aouna.
The Foot Mercato journalist reported via X (28 August) that the Portuguese club have added the centre-back to their list of priorities “in the recent hours.”
Villarreal have also made Aguerd a priority, with many other European and Saudi clubs interested in the 28-year-old.
Aguerd is open to a move away from the London Stadium before Friday (30 August).
West Ham United defender Nayef Aguerd to sign for Porto?
Julen Lopetegui has arrived at the London Stadium and completely transformed the club’s defence.
Max Kilman and Jean-Clair Todibo have been brought in at centre-back, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka signed to play at right-back.
In addition, Kurt Zouma looks to be on his way out, with the Hammers reportedly ready to pay the Frenchman a one-off £2.2million bonus to terminate his contract ahead of a proposed move to Al-Orobah (via Sean Whetstone, 28 August).
And now it looks as if Aguerd could be on his way out too. In all honesty, it is no surprise that Lopetegui has decided to overhaul the Hammers’ backline.
Only the three teams relegated from the Premier League conceded more times than David Moyes’ West Ham side during the 2023/24 campaign.
Therefore, the departure of Aguerd is unlikely to be met with much resistance in the London Stadium.
The club have made several high-profile signings this summer. Therefore, the sale of Aguerd might be an important one to help balance the books.
